Charm & Mayhem: The Goddess of Fate by Sky Sommers

I love Sky Sommers' books, but this branch out into urban fantasy is absolutely AMAZING!

Charm and Mayhem by Sky Sommers is fun, quirky with great pacing and some excellent ideas. It's a wonderful read about meddlesome Fate and her attempt to change jobs. Fate--well, I mean Faith Morgan--just loves dishing out more twists and weirdly-manipulated situations. She's Fate, of course she does. But I also love how she retires-not-retires and goads Marina into taking over.

Sommers remains true to her usual snarky tone and in this book we finally get to see Marina (aka Griselda the witch and/or Granny from the Cinders-Embers-Ash trilogy) in her element. I love the new direction Marina's life is taking after all her troubles. I also enjoyed how it's a shift in her perspectives based on her experiences from the past, that allows her to make those changes. Modern day goddesses are super funny! And the romance between Marina and her guardian angel--simply hilarious!

Then there's Gabriel. Sweet, stoic, silent, and a Guardian Angel raised during the time of the crusades. His ideas on love and dating are, well, outdated. The conversations between Gabriel and Marina are laugh out loud funny. Be warned. You do not want to be reading this book while drinking your morning coffee.

Although this book slots into Sommers' greater universe and serves as a combining element for her urban fantasy stories, like "King of Time" and "Goddesses: The Bet", with the fairytale retellings set in Magic Kingdom, "Charm and Mayhem" can be read as a standalone, which I think makes it a really wonderful book as it caters to readers familiar with her work and new ones alike.

If you love twisty tales, stories about the multiverse, and witty dialogue, you'll love this novel!
