The Book Dragon

Of Glass and Ashes by Robin D Mahle and Elle Madison

Oh, my goodness! I did not see that coming! Beware, if you don't like cliffhangers, be sure to get the whole collection of the Twisted Pages series, because I'm definitely binging it and so glad I have the full set so I can just keep going. Waiting on this one would be about as excruciating as being forced to walk on broken glass slippers fused to your feet. Yes, fab twist that one! I absolutely ADORE how these authors take these classic fairytales and twist them so completely. This particular Cinderella re-imagining also has clear Ella Enchanted vibes for reasons I won't go into (no spoilers from me), which added so much as that's one of my favourite Cinderella retellings. This new take, continuing directly where the previous book ended and weaving together Aika, Zaina and Einar's points of view seamlessly integrates the key elements of Cinderella into the main storyline of the series, and it's so intense! I was on the edge of my seat for most of this novel, and I honestly don't know when I'll be coming up for air because I need to know what happens next. The stakes are pretty insane.

Aika is a fab new female protagonist. She's quite an intense character as she's gone on a rampage after believing her adoptive sister, Zaina, is dead. Her emotional turmoil is presented in such a believable way and makes the unfolding plot and everything that happens to her so much more intense. I loved Zaina in the previous two books, and now I'm totally rooting for Aika too. They deserve all the happiness, and I sincerely hope they get it.

So, if you love retellings but want something seriously different, or if you enjoy romantic fantasy with strong worldbuilding and clean romance even if the kisses get intense, then this is definitely a series you need to take a look at. It's so worth it!
