Challenge of the Court:
Another wonderful read, and this time with the crazy challenges of the dragons, where psychological trauma, maiming and death are all on the table. I like how their "games" have very real, unforeseen consequences that Jinx rightly gets very upset about. Jinx is also as quick on her "thinking" feet as ever, always coming up with a great solution to very dire troubles.
The monsters, or I ought to say "creatures", are well thought out and fit intriguingly into the magical world. They add a lot to the story and the plot twists were very enjoyable because of it.
The romance is adorable. I love seeing Jinx and Emory together. They are so sweet. And I'm totally rooting for them despite all the stupid obstacles in their way.
This series is amazing and definitely worth it if you like contemporary fantasy with a hidden magical world and action-packed adventure set in a fabulously constructed, believable and magical universe.
Betrayal of the Court:
Oh, my goodness! Wow. I don't know what to say other than I hate the dragon court... Although Harris prepared for the twist with great foreshadowing, I really and truly believed Jinx and Emory would figure things out, but the ending didn't go at all how I expected and now I have to know how this series ends, because how can there only be one book left?!
On another note, I love Jinx's sleuthing and the stakes for this one were incredibly high. Once again, the unintentional consequences of the dragons' stupid challenge from the previous book kept on spiralling, but I think Jinx does a fab job of mopping up after their messes. She's a very busy lady, but still manages to get her hen party to be great fun despite unexpected spanners. Her friends are awesome. Emory is awesome. Gato is the best. And they get a puppy! Which is hilarious. And all round, I love the banter and light-hearted jokes that balance out the more serious business of the crazy life these fun characters' lead. On that note, drunk Jinx is hilarious! Truly one of the funniest conversations I've had the pleasure to read.
So, if you haven't started this series yet, I suggest you get cracking. It's one of the best contemporary fantasy series I've read in a while with a wonderful cast of characters and excellent worldbuilding.
Revival of the Court:
Finally! This series is brilliant and I'm so satisfied right now. This last book ratcheted up the intensity even more, so be warned! It gets pretty hair-raising. And there were definitely times I worried about Jinx. Lots of twisty turns in the plot.
I loved every minute of it, and since I don't want to give any spoilers, I'm just going to say I LOVED it, will probably re-read at some point, and will definitely be checking out this author's other, connected series about the witches and werewolves, which follow some of my favourite side characters as well.
