ForeSender Rebirth by Adrian Murphy

This second instalment of the ForeSender series is really, really good. Great battles, fantastic characters, intriguing worldbuilding and a very interesting meeting of cultures. Underlying all the magic and intrigue is a very subtle social commentary about colonialism, imperial expansionism, the concept of honour and the intersect of different beliefs.

I really enjoyed the different betrayals in this book. There's so much packed into the plot and I simply love how the different characters behave in response to what's going on around them. The plot is very carefully constructed and I definitely enjoyed how Murphy builds the tension and then lets rip.

Although this is a middle book in a series, I find the ending was very satisfactory. There's enough to tantalize the reader for the next book, but the ending is good and feels like an ending. That said, I'll probably dive into the next book at the first possible opportunity.
