Interview with an Author: Emma Bennet

Emma grew up and lived in London and now lives with her husband and four children in a small Welsh market town. She can often be found in rivers attempting to control two overexcited chocolate Labradors, whose snoring features in many of her YouTube videos. Emma likes (in no particular order): cake, books, Cary Grant films, coffee, chocolate, guinea pigs, knitting, quilting, and happily ever afters!

What genre do you write?

I write contemporary romance, picture books and non fiction for authors.

Tell us about your WIP.

I've just finished writing my Christmas book which is about a young woman struggling after the death of her mother who accepts a job organising Christmas for a Scottish laird and his family, finding love and healing herself in the process.

How would you describe your writing style?

Gentle escapism with kisses, humour and, usually, dogs!

What is your "writer's den" like?

I don't have one, mainly because I'm incredibly nosy and like to be in the centre of the action in case I miss something! I write either at the dining room table or under a pile of blankets on a sofa.

How do you get into the flow for writing? Do you have any rituals?

I have 4 children and 2 large dogs and have learned over the years to make the most of any writing time I have. I have much more writing time now but I've trained myself to be able to sit down and write anywhere and get into the flow quickly! Tea is absolutely essential though. Non negotiable.

What would be the greatest achievement for you to aim for as a writer if anything were possible?

I would absolutely love to have one of my books made into a film - that would be amazing!

Do you have a day job? What is it?

I don't, I'm incredibly lucky that all my work is writing related as I'm also a freelance book coach and developmental editor.

Do you read fellow indie authors' works? Why or why not?

I have started to do this more as I have made lots of indie author friends via my YouTube channel and I love to read their work and support them.

What's your favorite season? Why this one?

Autumn I think... No hayfever, chilly evenings and crunchy leaves! Plus Halloween, which i love.

Featured Book: The Baby Plan

Funny, unusual and enjoyable! How refreshing to read an unusual scenario for a romance! When her estranged sister, a single mum, died in a car accident, Sophie inherited her baby daughter. Samson introduced himself as baby Alana's father. Sophie loved Alana so much because she was all she had of her sister and didn't know what to do next - she even gave up her job and fiancé for the little girl. Should she trust Samson, who had only learnt about Alana the previous day? A very funny and captivating romance in the strangest of situations - I loved it!

Why would you like to feature this book?

This is my latest release. It was actually published by a different publisher but I got the rights back when I left them and my current publisher, Joffe Books, have republished it with a new cover, title and an epilogue.

Who was your favorite character to write?

I loved writing my heroine, Sophie. Not only has she just lost her sister, but she's been given responsibility for a baby she didn't know existed and I was so happy to be able to give her her happy ever after.

What was your favorite scene to write?

I loved writing Sophie and Samson's first kiss because there was such a build up to it and they'd both been holding out for so long!

What was the spark that started this book?

My ideas usually start with a 'What if?' question often when I'm in the shower or walking my dogs. I loved the idea of this very organised, career-driven woman having her life turned upside down by a baby and a handsome surfer.
