Wow! Just give me a moment to re-align brain with reality. This book totally consumed me! And now that I'm here to write a review, suddenly the lilies on the cover make so much sense. I'm amazed at how well the author managed to keep the cover in line with the genre look while also making it so memorably unique to this book. That's rare and I truly appreciate it. Then there's the play on "dangerous", because although Jasmine thinks Chase is the dangerous one, I'm more inclined to see it as the perfect description for her, and that makes the title even so much deeper.
I was immersed in this novel from the get go, but the best part was how much I laughed. For two thirds of the book there was hardly a page where I didn't find something giggle-worthy -- to the extent I caught some curious glances from my family. It's that rare! And of course the fact I couldn't put the book down also raised eyebrows.
Amlani manages to perfectly balance the tension and intensity of the strong attraction between Jasmine and Chase, along with that of a nail-biting plotline, interspersed with the most amazing light-hearted moments. All round, this book is one I'm going to remember because of all the emotions it dredged up and how tightly I connected with all the characters. I'd like to make special mention of Helena, because I completely thought that character was utterly irredeemable, but with the deftest of twists right at the end, the author managed to not only broaden my perspective, but utterly salvaged Helena for me. I see her through new eyes and truly hope Amlani has a HEA in store for the poor girl. She totally deserves it.
As for the plot. Yes, it's intense with loads of ups and downs. It's also a wonderful example of perfect foreshadowing, because even though I couldn't see any of the plot twists coming, once they unfolded they didn't surprise me at all. Everything worked within the context of the setting and encapsulated perfectly with the characters. That's particularly hard to do, not least because of the stretch of the imagination required in fiction. This one is seamless! Everything is immensely plausible and even totally possible. I adore that!
So, if you're not yet convinced...
If you love steamy romance with a proper story, a really strong, flawed, highly intelligent FMC who overcomes an insanely traumatic past and makes the best of the lemons life dealt her, not to mention a MMC with a knight in shining armour complex that the FMC actually considers a flaw; if you enjoy banter, great friends in the wings and an exceptionally intense plot, then GET THIS BOOK! It's amazing.
Ooooh yeah this book sounds amazing!!
