The Book Dragon

Of Starlit Blades and Hallowed Flames by A.L. Lorensen

I am broken. Utterly gutted. This second book in The Songs of Loralan series outshone the first (which too was brilliant).

This novel follows Aspen and Ro/Tristan as they try to protect the Golden Grove from invading forces. As Ro remembers his past, and more elements of their shared backstory unfolds, the more compelling the story becomes. I was invested from the get-go, but by the end, the characters' emotions bled on the page and I couldn't have put the book down even if I needed to. Everything lay forgotten while I cried and laughed and ugly cried and screamed over the horrors of war and the unfairness of life.

This novel is brilliant, evocative, and this series is definitely one of the best high, epic fantasy reads with a side of slow burn, clean romance that I've read in a very long time. Highly, highly recommend. Now, bear with me while I lament the fact the continuation hasn't even been announced yet... How do I get over this book hangover?
