More excellent epic high fantasy from David Green. This series is so incredibly well done!
I've thoroughly enjoyed this second instalment, which picks up right where In Solitude's Shadow left off. Although there is a lot going on and there are quite a number of characters, I never once felt out of my depth, even though I read the first book about a year ago and haven't gone back to it to get my bearings. For me, that is a testament to a well-written series. Even without a recap, I was able to follow what was happening and remembered each of the very well-crafted characters.
In the past, I've often become leery of large books with multiple POV chapters. Most notably, the Song of Ice and Fire had me loving certain characters more and therefore I was tempted to skip the chapters relating to characters I wasn't really interested in. Green, on the other hand, has managed to produce a large cast of very relatable characters who endeared themselves to me all equally. There was absolutely no way I would be skipping anyone's point of view! I had to have them all.
I won't be waiting as long to dive into the next book. This series is totally addictive and I absolutely loved the twist that came at the end of Path of War. What a fantastic set-up for the next book!
