I really enjoyed the beginning of this steamy romance novel. Cassie and Nat's whirlwind romance was very endearing and definitely captured my imagination. I particularly appreciated how the author allowed the characters to openly talk about sex, not dirty talk, but just frank conversations on the topic, which is highly unusual. Mostly, these kinds of books are open about the act, but not so much about the characters' f
eelings about it.
Even though I enjoyed the connection between the characters, unfortunately I felt there were way too many explicit scenes for my liking. I enjoy it when they're key to the story, but many of the open door scenes in this novel felt totally gratuitous and didn't push the plot forward.
Lastly, although I appreciated Cassie's concerns and doubts, she doesn't overcome them. She doesn't have a proper character arc because she doesn't come to any conclusions about her negative thoughts and doesn't even determine that she wants to do better or that things have worked out so far, so she can trust they will continue to do so. This lack, in particular, saddened me because I felt she could inspire readers, rather than just being a humdrum character with her head buried in the sand like an ostrich. She had a lot of potential that wasn't explored to its maximum effect.
I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but it's not necessary. This can easily be read as a standalone.
