The Book Dragon

Scarlet Princess by Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison

I’m completely hooked.

I blazed through this book in under a day (even though I ought to have been doing all sorts of other things) and there wasn’t a single thing I disliked. It has skyrocketed to one of my favourite books and I'm totally looking forward to diving into the remaining three books in the series.

The connection between Rowan and Theo was so well done, I shipped it hard. Although their families are enemies, they really had more of a "wannabe enemies" to lovers arc, and I rooted for them from the get go. I was particularly taken with Rowan's hilarious comebacks. In just the first few chapters, her lines had me laughing so hard my kids looked at me funny.

Once again, these authors have explored cultural differences and culture shock incredibly well and in a way that made it viscerally believable. I've read one other book by them that explores similar cultural boundary crossing and these ladies sure know what they're doing. As someone who has lived in foreign countries for most of my adult life, I totally felt the weirdness of the new culture through Rowan's eyes and I loved her not-so-subtle reactions to the differences. I also enjoyed those moments where she made a mental note that some things were the same or very similar to what she was used to.

This book is utterly amazing! And that twist at the end? I need the next book NOW!
