Hook Up by M.L. Broome

Once again, I am reminded why I love all of Broome's books. This one didn't disappoint. So much heart. Such incredible intensity. The moments I think I know where it's going and then bam the twist that totally sends me for a loop.

But more than anything, I love how Broome's male leads are always so believably human. They make mistakes. They are not the ideal partner until they choose to be so. They mess up. They learn. And they do better. Ryder - man, I wanted to smack the boy upside the head. So many times. And then, he pulls himself together and does even better than I could have ever envisioned.

Greer was also a fabulous character. Her hangups and past traumas really shaped her and the way she reacts to things Ryder does and says is so very believable. My heart hurt for her so much. What a schmuck her father was. What asses the men she dated. Even Ryder at times totally made things worse.

And that is truly what makes Broome's characters stand out. They have so much to overcome, and they do - but never quite in the way one would expect. I can't get enough of this sort of romance, and adore this author's works so very much. Hook Up has it all. The tension, the drama, the warm and fuzzies, and the squeal-with-excitement perfection.
