The Book Dragon

Hunted by Wolves and Shadow by Jo Holloway

This Little Red retelling is honestly incredible! It is so well done. Definitely sparkles at the top of my list of retellings because IT IS THAT GOOD!

I was already in love with Holloway's spooky mist-infested Aglonbriar forest from several short stories I've read over the past few months, but now I truly adore the setting. It is so brilliantly done and the author really manages to bring out the terror of it brilliantly. The opening chapter is such an incredible hook, and it just gets better from there. The magic system is unique and very beautifully described. I also adore how at first all magic in this world seems evil and as the story progresses, perspectives change. That was a lot of fun too.

The he falls first enemies to lovers is also exceptionally well done and I shipped it hard. Wow! I love Emi and Wolf. Their banter is fabulous, and the chemistry and tension between them is so well written. The difficulties of their relationship, and the issues their own suppositions cause added another really wonderful layer and made the ending so, so good.

And the last line is the best use of a "Little Red Riding Hood Line" but twisted so it's a HEA. True brilliance. Absolutely loved it and honestly, I want to read the book all over again. It's so awesome.
