I thoroughly enjoyed this retelling, which beautifully combines the key elements of the Disney version with the classic French fairytale and the author’s fantastical world. I really connected with Bonnie, the MC of this story and I was completely invested in her quest. Although quirky, she’s a fun character and her insistence on doing what is right, determination and stubbornness endeared her to me.
The pacing is perfect, with a natural ebb and flow that made reading this novel effortless. The plot and the unfolding mystery kept me curious and turning those pages without fail. And I absolutely HAVE to know what happens next. Thankfully I had the foresight to get this duet, so can keep reading and enjoying Bonnie’s adventure.
Although this book needs a bit more spit 'n polish on the editing side, I was invested enough in the story that the errors didn't bother me too much, so I give it 4.5 stars.
