The Book Dragon

The Marquise and her Cat by Shari L. Tapscott

A sweet, gender-swapped Puss in Boots retelling with one lovely, heartwarming twist that turns this story into a friends-to-lovers romance. There is also quite a bit of the secrets and lies trope as well, sticking to the original fairytale and of course the talking cat, an ability which (as in the original tale) is never explained. I liked Etta and Beau as characters. Their hopes and desires captivated me and I was definitely rooting for their success, especially because of the twist on the original tale.

This story sticks to all the main points of the fairytale and only minimally fleshes things out, which I enjoyed.
