The Book Dragon

The Night Market by Jesikah Sundin

I absolutely loved every minute of this swoony, slow burn friends-to-lovers forbidden romance. The fae tricks and bargains are spot on. The worldbuilding is complex and brilliant, and adds so much to the depth of the story. The characters swept me up in a flurry of magic and I couldn’t get enough of them, especially all the fantastic animal sidekicks whose antics made me laugh. I also love the idea of a culture that considers paramount the beauty in males and their ability to dance. Always wanted a fantasy culture that took ridiculous bird behaviours (think Birds of Paradise) as a root for a foreign culture and now I've finally found one. It's brilliant. The banter is also super funny, and there were several times I burst out laughing and got curious glances.

The stakes are so high in this story, I blazed through this novel because I simply HAD to know what would happen next and how things would end. The twists definitely surprised me and fit the tricky fae setting brilliantly. I also loved this book builds on Bound by Ravens, while also being a perfect standalone.

If you like spicy romantasy and stories with fae, you will want to read this collection of stand-alones. I highly recommend! It balances high stakes, romance, dark themes and humour perfectly.
